INVESTIGATIVE INTERVIEWING

The aim of the course is to train investigators in the skills and abilities necessary to conduct effective interviews with victims, witnesses and suspects with integrity and in accordance with the law.

The course contains:

  • The PEACE model
  • The Cognitive Interview approach
  • Management of Conversation
  • Practical interviews
  • Disclosure at Interviews

It is intended for all investigators who are required to conduct investigative interviews and is of either two or four days duration, dependant upon your requirements. Students are subject of continual trainer assessment throughout and performance feedback is given at the conclusion of each interview.

At the conclusion of the course students will be able to:

  • Describe fully the PEACE model of interviewing.
  • Apply the cognitive interview and the management of conversation methods of interview to practical scenarios. (Dependant upon the length of course attended).
  • Explain the caution.

Whilst the cognitive interview and the management of conversation interview can be used with either witness or suspect interview, it is common practice for the former interview to be used for witnesses and the latter for those suspected of involvement in conduct which breaches company policy or the criminal law.

The course is intended to be a pass only course in that students must display an understanding of the PEACE model in both classroom and practical scenarios.
